Blaser R93        

Blaser produce an extensive range of firearms; from the superbly dainty single shot break open rifle (Kipplaufbuchse), to a range of multi-barrel combination guns. However the most revolutionary firearm in their range is the model R93 straight pull bolt action, interchangeable barrel, sporting, and target rifle. This rifle has changed the whole concept of bolt action firearms as we know them.

To achieve this award winning design it took a great deal of research and development to be able to remove the features found in normal bolt action rifles that contribute to the inconsistencies in reliability and accuracy often encountered.

The R93 has no receiver, everything is based around the barrel, (the barrel is the heart of the gun) the scope mounts on the barrel, the bolt locks into the barrel, the recoil lug is on the barrel, and the barrel is bedded on 8 aluminium bedding pads. The butt and forewood have no effect or can change the reliability of accuracy. With the recoil lug mounted forward on the barrel, it changes the direction of recoil, reducing muzzle lift, thus increasing the ability to see your bullet strike through the telescopic sight.

The feed from the magazine in most bolt guns often damages projectile tips, and can misalign a projectile in the case, and on ignition the projectile starts its journey out of alignment causing accuracy variations, however the R93 feeds the rounds directly into the chamber with no contact to the projectiles.

The bolt lock up is radically different, the radial locking lug has an engagement of 355 degrees, and is also tapered. This an important feature as it aligns the bolt head up perfectly with the bore on primer ignition - this insures the cartridge is also perfectly in line with the bore, once again removing one of the little problem areas when trying to achieve a constancy in accuracy.

The trigger mechanism is also radical and simple, and there is no other firearm that has the superb feel of the Blaser trigger - the let- off really is just like breaking a glass rod. The handling of this gun has been described by many gun writers as "superb", "handles like a shotgun" and for those offhand shots from awkward positions there is nothing better.
